Founder Story

For much of my life, I believed purpose was something you found.

I searched for it through challenge, service, achievement, and the pursuit of difficult things.

Through nearly fifteen years in the Marine Corps, I had the opportunity to work alongside exceptional people, solve complex problems, travel the world, and participate in missions larger than myself.

Along the way, I learned lessons about leadership, sacrifice, responsibility, relationships, and service.

Eventually, I found myself asking:

What gives a life purpose?

What creates value?

The answers did not come from a promotion, a paycheck, or a title.

Instead, they appeared repeatedly through the things that required care.

A family.

A friendship.

A team.

A community.

A craft.

A tree.

Over time, I realized that the most meaningful things in life share a common trait:

They require stewardship.

Neglected things deteriorate.

Tended things grow.

The things we consistently give our time, attention, and energy to ultimately shape who we become.

Just as importantly, they often outlive us.

The older I get, the more I believe that we are all temporary caretakers. Of our families. Of our communities. Of our knowledge. Of our traditions. Of the places we inhabit and the people whose lives intersect with our own.

Nothing we care for truly belongs to us forever.

Our responsibility is not ownership.

It is stewardship.

To leave things better than we found them.

To carry forward what matters.

To become worthy ancestors to people we may never meet.

Tend What Grows was born from that realization.

Not as a bonsai company.

Not as a nursery.

Not as a self-help program.

But as an ongoing exploration of purpose, value, stewardship, service, storytelling, and the things worth caring for.

My family remains my greatest responsibility.

My sister played a foundational role in helping shape this journey, and I have chosen to build Tend What Grows alongside her because of trust, shared values, and a belief that meaningful things are rarely built alone.

At its core, Tend What Grows is about stewardship:

Of ourselves.

Of our families.

Of our communities.

Of our ecosystems.

Of our time.

And of the stories we leave behind.

Because stewardship is not ownership.

It is simply our turn to tend what grows.

There Is No Top To The Cool Ladder

There is always another title. Another school. Another mission. Another achievement. Another rung.

Chasing achievement without purpose becomes an endless pursuit.

Tend What Grows exists because stewardship, service, and meaningful contribution provide a more durable foundation than status alone.

What Tend What Grows Is,

What it is Not

A philosophy. A community. An ecosystem. A platform for stewardship, storytelling, education, service, and meaningful contribution.

Not a bonsai company. Not a nursery. Not a therapy practice. Not an influencer brand. Not a get-rich-quick scheme.
